As
part of its ongoing philanthropic program, World Shoe Association has
awarded $10,000 in scholarship money to Los Angeles area design students.
The scholarship was created in conjunction with The Fashion Group International
of Los Angeles, an international association of professionals in the
fashion industry.
The
scholarships were awarded during the Fashion Group's presentation of
the ready-to-wear collections for Fall/Winter 2000 (Milan, Paris,
New York), held recently at the Harry Chandler Auditorium of
the Los Angeles Times. In addition to the WSA Footwear Design
Scholarships, Fashion Group also awarded tuition money to students
participating in apparel design and merchandising categories.
World
Shoe Association, organizers of the largest footwear trade exhibition
in the U.S., created the WSA Footwear Design Scholarship in order to
encourage and support excellence in footwear design. Students entering
were required to submit sketches in one or more of the following categories:
career/contemporary, junior, evening and athletic/weekend.
In
addition to other charitable donations, WSA also supports scholarships
administered by Two/Ten.
With
over one million square feet of exhibit space displaying more than 1,000
footwear brands, The WSA Shoe Show is the largest footwear trade market
in the U.S. Retail buyers attending the show at the Sands Expo & Convention
Center find men's, women's, children's and athletic footwear as well
as accessories, handbags and foot care products. WSA also hosts The
Collections, an upscale exhibition at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel, featuring over 100 better designer footwear brands including
Giorgio Armani,
Bruno Magli, Cynthia Rowley
and Richard Tyler.
